With healthcare being debated in Washington, it’s important to remember those that truly rely on others’ support. There are currently zero public mental health facilities in Alabama yet the state legislature was willing to borrow $845 million dollars for four substandard prisons. According to mentalhealthamerica.net, Alabama ranks 46th out of all 50 states and the District of Columbia meaning they have a higher prevalence of mental illness and lower access to proper and affordable care.
You’re Invited! To the Party of Democratic Oppression
The Democratic Party was formed from the anti-federalists, who opposed the ratification of the 1787 constitution. Founded by Andrew Jackson, (who supported slavery and would play a large role in the Indian removal), the party advocated westward expansion, Manifest Destiny, and greater equality among white men. When the Civil War began in 1860, it was a war between the mostly Republican north and the mostly democratic, slaveholding south. However, if one was to look at the history of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) by going to their website, DNC.org, under the “Our History” tab they would read: “For more than 200 years, our party has led the fight for civil rights, health care, Social Security, worker’s rights, and women’s rights.”
The Future of the Travel Ban- Combatting the Growing Terrorist Threat
Now that the Supreme Court has approved President Trump’s travel ban, what’s next? Trump has argued that the ban is necessary to reassess vetting procedures for immigrants from high-risk countries. With the ban officially in place, the administration must figure out how to best enhance these procedures. It’s not altogether clear what changes need to be made, especially with so many questions surrounding the terrorist threat from abroad. Why do some people find the radical ideology embraced by ISIS and other terror groups so attractive? And what, if anything, can the U.S. do to combat the spread of this ideology?

Who Is This Woman?: Wonder Woman’s Refreshing Take On Feminism
Perhaps one of the most telling scenes of the new Wonder Woman movie is when Diana Prince finds herself in a room filled with the most high-ranking men in Great Britain. As they debate whether or not to save thousands of lives or risk upsetting negotiations of the armistice that will end World War I, Diana bravely intervenes on behalf of the thousands of lives the men seem so quick to give up. After the entire room is set aback at the outburst, one of the officers appropriately wonders, “Who is this woman?” This woman is not only a hero more badass than any Superman, but embodies some of the best qualities that are inherent in almost all women...
Planting to Product: How Two Churches Are Bringing Others to Christ
In an age full of churches dying left and right, there is a church that stands out among the rest. Redeemer Community Church located in Birmingham, Alabama has a story like no other. Brought to Birmingham by God’s calling, lead pastor Joel Brooks uprooted his family from Atlanta and decided to plant a church in Birmingham. The church started in 2008 and began with 150 members. The interesting part of this church is that now, less than ten years later, they are pressing towards 1,000 members. This church is growing exponentially, but why are some churches like Redeemer Community Church and the Church of the Highlands growing on a weekly basis but other churches are struggling to keep their members?...
