Are You Settling For Less? The Truth About Handling Accidents Without An Attorney

Need a legal question answered RIGHT NOW? Text Chris Reid @ (205) 913-7406

On average, a person who’s been in an accident and retains counsel from an attorney will receive 3.5 times more money than a person who tries to settle a personal injury claim on his or her own. This finding is based on a study completed by the Insurance Research Council. In this scenario, your $6,000 settlement can quickly become a $21,000 settlement with the assistance of a lawyer. While this is just an average, it is clear the difference an attorney can make. Most families cannot afford to shrug off that kind of money.

Insurance companies are known for displaying extreme miserliness. Many people don’t realize the value of their claims. Insurance companies know this and in turn offer settlements significantly below market value. Insurance companies are also known for avoiding settling when they should and pressuring plaintiffs to settle for much less than they deserve. If you are involved in an accident, it is imperative you hire an attorney to file your lawsuit or negotiate your settlement. It is difficult when you are emotionally wrapped up in a situation to see everything clearly. An attorney can look at a situation objectively and in its totality. Lawyers have experience working with insurance companies and judges and will be able to offer a clear path forward. This is an advantage the average citizen won’t have if they choose to handle their case alone.

The Reid Law Firm offers free initial consultations. We are honest and forthright in our analysis of a case. We are careful to only take cases when we think we can make a difference. How to Get Your Record Cleaned: New Law in Alabama Makes Expungement Possible!

Need a legal question answered RIGHT NOW? Text Chris Reid @ (205) 913-7406

Getting your record cleared is much easier in Alabama now that a new law has passed. This new expungement law affects people who had their cases dismissed or pleaded in misdemeanor cases. The expungement law also applies to non-violent felonies. This is incredible news for anyone out there who feels haunted by past mistakes. Without an expungement, employers can see past transgressions, even if you were found not guilty. Under the new law though, even if your arrest was back in college, you are well within your rights to apply for expungement; there is no time limitation for this process. Once expunged, in the eyes of the law, it’s as if the incident never happened. It is a class B misdemeanor to willfully disclose information that has been expunged.  Once expunged, you are now legally allowed to say you have never been arrested. Arrests, booking or arrest photos, index references, documentation, forms, charges and data can all be expunged. There are a few exceptions though. Certain organizations still require you to disclose the expunged information. This includes, but is not limited to, the state bar, doctors, lawyers, and any governmental agencies. Overall, however, from state of Alabama’s perspective, once expunged it is as though arrest never occurred.

The process of getting your arrest expunged is quite technical and extensive. If you meet the criteria, you must file a petition for expungement. You must also attach a record or the arrest, disposition, case action summery, and certified criminal record. We recommend the use of an attorney for this process. If you qualify under the statue, the Reid Law firm will get your record expunged and sealed. Why not get your record cleared if you can? If you'd like to schedule a time to talk, please contact the Reid Law Firm today at 205-913-7406! How To Guarantee Your Kids Will Make A High Income Right Out Of School

One of the challenges of that America faces in the 21st century is ensuring that there are enough jobs in the marketplace. Over the past 30 years we have seen many manufacturing jobs move overseas and many of the people who worked those jobs were left in dire circumstances. Yet, there is hope that we could bring back manufacturing jobs to this country. There is a great need for skilled labor and the department of Labor has put out statistics that there for every 3 people that retire from skilled labor jobs, we only have one American worker to replace them. Mike Rowe of dirty jobs has been leading the charge for Alabamians to obtain these skilled labor jobs like wielding, because they pay nearly six figures and are in high demand. Yet, our culture is constantly telling our children that a four year liberal arts degree is the only way to succeed. Since 1990, vocational training in public schools has been cut 36% which is one reason why we are having to import skilled workers from overseas. North Carolina recently passed a innovative new law which will dramatically change the way many students experience high school. North Carolina has a duel track system which allows the students that want vocational training to get most of it in high school and then potentially go to a trade school and start working usually but the time they are 20. Students that want to go to 4 year colleges can still take the same path as before but this allows the students with an interest in skilled work to start making near 6 figures by the time they are 20 years old. Private businesses are already moving to North Carolina because of this law and it is likely there unemployment will decrease significantly faster than other states over the next decade. We need to elect leaders who will run on a platform that puts emphasis on vocational training in our schools as a means to dramatically reduce the unemployment rate and to bring private business to this state. Alabama needs to follow the North Carolina model and it wouldn't take much investment to get amazing results. Our state has so much potential but our leaders aren't responding to the needs of the marketplace. There is also wide bipartisan support for these programs but no one is really spearheading the effort right now. As our legislature considers increases in our taxes I hope they will also consider much needed reforms in our educational system that will provide so much opportunity for people from all walks of life. If we could encourage vocational opportunities in urban settings it would dramatically decrease the crime rate and provide real and meaningful hope.

How Does A Recent Document Release Link Saudi Arabia to the 9/11 Attacks?

Need a legal question answered RIGHT NOW? Text Chris Reid @ (205) 913-7406

There has been a recent uptake in interest in a 28-page congressional report linking Saudi Arabia to the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks. Saudi Arabia is often said to be an ally of the United States, but many believe the Saudis were complicit in the extremist attacks.

In 2002, the Bush administration ordered the now infamous 28-page document to be permanently sealed. Senator Bob Graham, one of the main proponents for the release of the documents, pins the Saudis as a principal financial backer for 9/11. If this is true, it is clearly in the United States’ best interest to declassify these documents.

If the declassification of the report is allowed to occur and if Saudi Arabia was indeed complicit in the attacks, victims of terrorism would be permitted to sue those responsible for the distress they have suffered. This action is currently barred by congress, but congress is looking to enact legislation allowing for the lawsuits.

Currently, Saudi Arabia is threatening to sell $750 billion in US based assets if the documents are released. While this is unmistakably inauspicious, America should not give into financial blackmail. Osama Bin Ladin and al-Queda have a long history with the Saudis. If congress releases the documents, perhaps we could finally uncover the truth. Out of respect for the families and victims of 9/11, congress should declassify the documents and allow for justice to be served.

Update: Congress did release the 28 pages linking the to Saudi officials to the 9/11 attacks. This is a rare example of bipartisan cooperation.
